It’s a little late in the month but better late than never! I usually start of the year with some goals that I want to accomplish for my blog in the new year. Not resolutions. I don’t do those. Just goals that I try to work on throughout the year. Last year I even did an assessment of how well I did or didn’t accomplish my 2017 goals. So welcome to my 2018 Blog Goals.
My Youtube Channel
One of my first 2018 blog goals is to talk less about my youtube channel. I will still post relevant vlogs into my posts as and when needed but I won’t be actively promoting on my blog itself in posts like my top posts of the year or month anymore. This is not because I am no longer updating my channel. I still am. I am just trying to seperate the two platforms a little more. I’d still like you to subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already. I just won’t be talking about it so much on here.
The reason for this is because it ends up being a slight double up on my Facebook Page. I just feel that it must be a little annoying for my followers to see a post on facebook about a video I have uploaded onto youtube and then another post from my blog with the same video.
Quality Over Quantity
In the past I’ve made a few goals over trying to blog more! I’ve joined blog challenges time after time with the intent of trying to blog every day. While these challenges do help to promote my blog with increased outreach and new followers. They don’t necessarily mean I am providing my followers with quality posts for reading. I want to change that. So this year, I am not going to aim to join any blog challenges. Nor am I going to try and stick to a strict posting schedule.
Instead, I am going to try and post when I have something of quality to say. Now this could be as simple as my family friday updates or it could be a more involved child update post or even a review of something that I either really enjoyed or really hated. I may post several times in one week or post nothing in a week. I’ll try to be as consistent with posting as I can but not to the point of just posting dribble for the sake of posting.
Top Posts of The Month
Being mindful of that, I have decided to drop the top posts of the month post that I usually do at the start of the month. I feel that it would be a waste of time doing that when realistically I may not even post more than 4 or 5 times in a whole month.
I will still be doing a top posts of the year post at the start of each year however. So keep an eye out for that one!
Yes, obviously I’d still like to increase my outreach. Unlike past years, I won’t be using a quantity of post approach to do this. I’m hoping that my quality approach will accomplish this instead with the hope that my readers will share my posts with their friends.
To be realistic, I’m not going to set myself a high percentage goal for this. Last year I aimed for a 25% increase. This year, with my aim of using a different approach for my blog, I am going to try for a 10% increase. If I can smash that goal out of the ballpark I will be really happy.
