Weight Loss Update | January 2017

It’s been a couple of months since I did an update on my weight loss journey. That last one was in October in fact and since we’re starting a whole new year I felt it was time to share my progress so far.

amummyslifenzAs of 20th December 2016 I got as far down as 93.8 kg which put me at an 11.6 kg total weight loss from the 105.4 kg I was on 1st January 2016. I am really proud of that. I achieved this loss simply by trying to eat healthier and taking the dogs for a walk most days. I occasionally added in some strength work but nothing on a fixed basis.

Of course, we’ve just had the Christmas/New Year holiday binge eating season. I actually expected to put on a couple of kg over this time simply because I don’t generally have a lot of self-control over holiday season treats and I tend to slack off on exercising a lot during this time. But in reality I didn’t.

Progress photo. 2 January 2017. Weight 94.2 kg. Total loss: 11.2 kg.

In fact, when I weighed myself on 2nd January 2017, I had only put on 400 g over the holiday season. I have to say I am REALLY proud of that. I thought I had done much worse than I really did. I also managed to get some walks and other exercise into the holidays.

In terms of non-scale victories, my mummy pouch is really starting to shrink slowly but surely. My hips and thighs are toning up a little. My face is slowly starting to thin down a bit. My clothes are getting looser. I’m at the point now where I need a belt to hold up most of my shorts and even on my smallest hole of the belt it’s still loose.

This year I plan on focusing on losing a further 15 kg. I have a final target goal of between 70-75 kg depending on how I feel as I reach it. It will be a guessing game at that time. But that is nearly 20 kg away. So, I feel a goal of 15 kg loss in a year is a reasonable target to aim for. Something else I want to focus on is getting more structured strength type exercising in and drinking more water.

Are you on a weight loss journey? How did you do over the holidays?

  1. That’s why I’ve made it a goal. Not a resolution. I started this journey in September last year so I’m just continuing what I started. Not restarting. 😀

  2. Much needed post at the start of the new year.Fitness resolutions are the toughest to keep up

Good job!!! Trying to lose weight has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I grew up being slender and just never thought I’d weight THIS MUCH in my mid-forties!! I think you are doing a terrific job, and your example is inspiring.

  4. Good for you! That’s awesome that you are trying to make lifestyle changes to bring about better health. It’s really hard to do, so I admire your determination. Holidays can be quite the challenge, especially because there always seems to be a reason to celebrate, and what better way to celebrate than with food? Across the pond here, so I’m a bit in the dark about Kilograms vs Pounds; however, I can appreciate your numbers going down. I look forward to keeping up with your progress as I am on a weight-loss journey of my own. Best of wishes!

    • Generally speaking I think there is approx 2.5 pounds to 1 kg? I think. I’m really happy with my progress over the holidays. I wish you well on your own journey!

So many get caught up in trying to lose weight quickly rather than in a healthy manner. I love that you are making healthy changes to your eating and movement routines. They are much more likely to hold that way. Congratulations on the loss so far, and best of luck for your future goals. You seem well on your way!!

Great job! Losing weight is a tough thing. usually we take months or years to put it on, so trying to get it off quickly (which most people want to do) is TOUGH!

Stay the course and stick with it! I’ll be cheering for you!

  7. you should be proud of how far you have come. Good luck with your goals
