Yesterday was Blake’s post eye surgery check up with the surgeon who performed Blake’s surgery. This check up was scheduled for 6 weeks after the surgery as that was when most of the recovery healing had been completed. Both Eugene & myself were there for this post eye surgery check up.
Personally, for myself, I’ve seen a huge improvement in Blake’s physical coordination. Before surgery, even with glasses on, Blake used to be quite clumsy. Now he is capable of doing most things without tripping over his on feet. At least no more than a normal child his age should do. He is even able to walk along our internal fencing railing (about waist height) without losing his balance now.
At the check up, the nurse who does the pre-tests before we see the surgeon, said his sight was a little better when he was wearing glasses pre-surgery. On the other hand, his sight seems improved from when he tested without wearing glasses pre-surgery. She did note that he still has a slight squint but nothing that we need to worry about anymore. Hopefully nature will fix that while his eye finish healing from the surgery.
Trainee Surgeon’s Check
Before seeing the actual surgeon, Blake got a few tests from a trainee one. We have often had a trainee perform certain tests before seeing the actual doctor in charge. It’s quite interesting to watch how the doctor in charge (or in this case surgeon) tests their knowledge on their results before confirming them for himself. Even if one can’t understand a word of the medical jargon being spoken. The trainee surgeon also picked up on the slight squint.
The surgeon, himself, certainly wasn’t worried about that slight squint however. He was actually very pleased with his own tests on Blake’s eyes. He has recommended one more post-surgery check up with the specialist that we were under for 2 years prior to Blake’s surgery. After that the surgeon thinks we should be done for the moment.
All in all, pretty positive outcome.
