Ballerina 2016 | Movie Review

The girls and I watched the 2016 movie Ballerina today. It’s the first time we’ve seen it and I have to say I was rather impressed with the movie for the most part.

Set in the 1800s. A preteen orphan girl and her friend run away from the orphanage they live in to Paris where they hope to make their dreams come true. For him, he wishes to be an inventor, for her, she wants to be a dancer at the opera.

What I Loved About Ballerina

Felicia was hit with set back after set back. But she continued to keep trying. Each set back helped her determination to grow until she reached her ultimate goal. She made new friends and found love along the way. She showed children that they can do make their dreams come true if they have enough determination and passion to do it.

What I Didn’t Like About Ballerina

Someone seems to have been a little confused about what girls wore in the 1800s. One of the outfits that Felicia wore a lot was more suited to the 21st century to the 1800s. Somehow, I just don’t think the idea of jean shorts worn over stockings was around then. It wouldn’t have ruined it for most people but for myself it spoilt the spirit of the era the movie was set in.

Worth Seeing?

In my opinion, yes, Ballerina is definitely worth seeing if you have the chance. My girls all enjoyed the movie and they range from ages 9, 4 & 1. I’m not sure if older girls would also enjoy it but I’m fairly sure they would.
