We all crave the odd dessert and there is nothing better than a chocolate cake! Except for having to wait the 40 odd minutes for it to cook of course. And if it’s just for one or two people, then there is a whole lot of cake being wasted. Tonight, Eugene & I got the craving. Well I did. Eugene just wanted something to snack on. I wasn’t in the mood for baking a whole cake so I looked up a recipe for a chocolate mug cake. Let me just tell you, there is a WHOLE lot of recipes out there for mug cakes, especially chocolate ones. Some of them were really complicated and required lots of ingredients. So I was really intrigued when I found a recipe that only needed 3 of them on Babble. I decided to try it out and share my thoughts.
3 Ingredient Chocolate Mug Cake
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup icing sugar
- 1-2 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 mug
- Chuck all 3 ingredients into the mug and mix well.
- Put into the microwave for 50-60 seconds until cooked.
- Top with suitable accompaniments.
I used 2 large tablespoons of cocoa powder for ours. I think 1.5 tablespoons might have been a better amount. It was very chocolatey but a little dry. It wasn’t overly sweet so more icing sugar might be needed should you prefer a sweeter chocolate taste. I used chocolate chips for a topping but it would have worked really well with cream either in liquid or whipped form and/or ice cream.
