Vegemite Memories | Convos With 4 Year Old

Today’s prompt for the Ultimate Blog Challenge was to talk about a day in history. Ironically, in my facebook memories for today came up a conversation between myself and my oldest from 5 years ago. My vegemite memories conversation took place during the time New Zealand had a Marmite supply crisis. Quite simply there wasn’t any. So we were all stuck with Vegemite. Not quite a substitute but the best we had.

Vegemite Memories

Celine had been watching me make toast soldiers for Blake who had been on solids for a couple of months. Which lead to the following conversation:

"amummyslifenz" "convo with a 4 year old" "vegemite memories" "marmite crisis"

Conversation between myself and Celine 5 years ago.

Celine, of course, was only 4 years old at the time. She did eat Marmite but wasn’t too fussed on Vegemite as a substitute. Blake was a 6 month old baby who loved his Marmite toast soldiers and didn’t notice the difference between Marmite and Vegemite.

So that’s my little day in history for you. A silly conversation with a then 4 year old.

I haven’t heard of either and they don’t sound like something I would enjoy. But hearing things our children say is always fun. Because like they say “out of the mouths of babes comes the most unusual conversations. Have a Blessed day.

    • You might be surprised. It’s a savoury spread and the Marmite in particular is good for an iron boost. Both are much lower in calorie than other spreads too.

    Hi, Patricia.
I can’t say I’ve had either one. I’ve heard stories about it. I know some vegetarians who eat Vegemite.
I hear you either like it or dislike it.
Love the conversation and so serendipitous to have it show up on FB today. #blogboost

Yes I love Vegemite, my 16 year old son has Vegemite and cheese sandwiches everyday. Vegemite rules to this day in my house, we even have to take it on holidays with us. Marmite? it just not Vegemite. Hope I never have to go through a Vegemite crisis, because that would be tragic for my boys.
