Christmas week has been quite a busy but laid back week for our family. The kids had a great time making biscuits for Santa on Christmas Eve and were delighted to see Santa had arrived during the night to eat their biscuits and leave their presents. If you missed last week’s Family Friday post, you can read it here.
We started Christmas week off with Christmas Eve. Jingles had returned home to the North Pole to help Santa prepare for his travels that night. He left the kids with some treats, an outfit to wear Christmas day, a book each and some other bits and bobs.
The kids made gingerbread biscuits for Santa. Well, I made the biscuit dough, the kids rolled it out and cut it into shapes. I used the gingerbread recipe from Food in a Minute. Once they had cut it all into shapes, I baked them and after they had cooled down the kids got to decorate them with icing and lollies.
Later that evening we put out some of the biscuits and a glass of milk out for Santa and some grated carrot for Rudolph. Hung up Santa’s special key on the hook outside and placed the Santa sacks under the tree for Santa to fill. Then then it was off to bed for the kids.
The kids were excited to see Santa had arrived in the night. He had eaten their cookies, drunk their milk, and left their presents. Rudolph made a mess of his grated carrot. You can read more about that in my Merry Christmas post.
The Grandparent’s Visit
The kids had a visit from their other grandparents (Eugene’s mother and step-father) the day after Boxing Day. We had a BBQ lunch together and a nice catch up. They gave the girls a lovely heart necklace each and Blake a construction vehicle set. Eugene and I received a range of yummy chocolates, biscuits and sparkling fruit juice. It was very much considered a pleasant day held by all.
The Rest Of Christmas Week
The rest of our Christmas week was spent either cleaning the house and yard together or relaxing with the kids in front of the tv. The kids have had a lot of enjoyment out of their presents this week. We enjoyed my homemade pavlova on Boxing Day. Eugene & I had a breakfast date at a cafe in Havelock North this morning and then visited some friends we hadn’t seen for ages for a catch up while we were waiting for his work van to be serviced. Otherwise that’s been it for this week. Just a nice quiet family week.
