Apple & Feijoa Crumble | Recipe

With Autumn well in place in New Zealand it’s warm fruit pie season. And there is nothing yummier to eat on a cold Autumn day than a deliciously warm apple & feijoa crumble! I made one the other day for Nana’s birthday lunch and now I’m going to share my recipe with you. Totally scrumptious on it’s own or served with cream or ice cream.

Apple & Feijoa Crumble


Base Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of sweet pastry
  • Spray cooking oil

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 small to medium sized granny smith apple
  • 12 feijoas
  • 1/8 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Crumble Ingredients

  • 1/8 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 25 grams butter, chopped


 

Directions

apple & feijoa crumble

  1. Preheat oven on 180ºC.
  2. Spray pie dish with cooking oil.
  3. Roll out pastry to fit the pie dish and place inside.
  4. Remove core and slice apple into thin slices and create an even apple layer on top of the pastry.
  5. Spoon the insides of the feijoa on top of the apple in an even feijoa layer.
  6. In a small bowl mix the sugar and spices for the filling then sprinkle evenly over the feijoa layer.
  7. In another bowl mix the crumble ingredients together before evenly covering the filling.
  8. Bake in oven for 30-40 minutes.
  9. Once baked remove from oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
