Celine just had her X-Ray and Orthopedic appointment and it’s ALL good news!
If this is your first time visiting my blog then you might want to have a look at the extended background for this particular post. You can do that on the Perthes Disease tab. Everything I have ever written about Celine’s journey with Perthes Disease can be found there.

However, just for a quick filler for you, my oldest daughter, Celine was diagnosed with Legg-Calve Perthes Disease 2 years ago. She spent the first year using a crutch and sling system in accordance to the wait and see approach that both her doctor and Orthopedic specialist advised. At the end of the first year Celine moved out of the fragmentation stage and into the regrowth stage. A few months into the regrowth stage we allowed Celine to come off her crutches but kept restrictions on the more high impact physical activities like running and jumping until she was cleared by the specialists. At her last x-ray in September 2016 it was noted that her femur head was now rounding back out and needed just a little more growth for Celine to be cleared.
Now that we have that out of the way, time for today’s good news!

Celine’s x-rays today went really well. Even I could tell that they looked good and her Orthopedic specialist agreed! Her femur head has rounded out nicely and filled in the empty space that it hadn’t done previously. Her specialist has released Celine from the restrictions on the high impact physical exercise provided she doesn’t over do it. She has been instructed that if she should feel sore to stop immediately and rest but otherwise to go ahead and participate. We are now on annual appointments so we don’t have another one until next year.
After 2 very long years our journey is virtually over! All our hard work and restrictions on Celine have paid off and rewarded us. Needless to say, our family is VERY happy right now!
