Joining in for another Friday Favourites linky post with Maria and Lisa. If you missed last week’s post, you can read it here! This week it is almost ALL about Blake. Birthdays, kindy graduations, Jingles the Elf, First day at school… It’s ALL here, Baby!
Yes, you read that right! Blake had a birthday this week and went and turned the big 5 year’s old on me! How the heck did that happen? I swear he was only just born! But it’s true. He’s 5 now and already looking so grown up over night.
We celebrated his birthday in typical December style. Cake, presents, Jingles getting into mischief. Blake asked for a chocolate cake so I made him a yummy chocolate cake courtesy of an Edmonds premix packet to decrease my stress level a little.
Since Blake was turning 5 this week, he had a kindy graduation last Friday afternoon. They talked about Blake’s achievements in the two years that he’s been at kindy and showed photos of the activities he went through. They blew out candles on a cake that they baked earlier in the day and he decorated; and they did 5 special claps of his choosing. It was very sweet and he did it all in a special graduation gown and cap.
First Day Of School
Of course, graduating from kindy also means starting school! Now Blake’s been attending school one day a week all term as part of an integration process but on Wednesday he started his first official day as an actual school kid. It was a big day for us all but Blake was totally ready and even read his first book for homework last night!
This year we decided to add an experience to our children’s birthday celebrations and for Blake we chose to take him on his first ride on the little trains at the Keirunga Park Railway in Havelock North. This was one that all the kids could participate in and they all LOVED it, even Isabella.
The kids got another “first” experience this last weekend. They went to their first Santa Parade! I didn’t even know we had a local Santa Parade every year at Christmas where we live until this month! I felt silly not knowing this but the kids had a ball watching all the floats going past and we found a few things to look into getting the kids into as well!
It’s not Christmas without getting a Santa photo. Bella wasn’t too happy by the whole process though the rest of the kids were excited to meet him and Blake was ready with his list of wants from Santa for presents.
Kindy Trip To Fire Station
Danielle’s kindy took a trip to our local fire station (which is literally outside their gate PMSL) and I went as a parent helper. Since Blake was already at school by this stage it gave me a chance to have some one on one time with Danielle. We spent the first half hour of the morning building a massive tower together that ended up taller than she was!
And then we went out the gate and into the fire station to listen to fire safety from the fire men who work there. The kids each got to ride in either the fire truck or the rescue vehicle around the block.
Afterwards, we went back to kindy and Danielle had some morning tea and we had a little more one on one time reading a book in the reading corner together before I went home.
The whole thing was beneficial to us both because I actually find Danielle my hardest child for me to deal with and because I have 4 children, we don’t get a lot of one on one time together. It was a good bonding time for us.
