Blake had an Ophthalmology appointment today at the hospital for his eye squint so I pulled him out of Kindy to spend the day with Mummy and Bella. We spent the first part of the morning browsing at one of the shops in town and then it was time to get to Blake’s eye appointment.
Unfortunately, although we got to the hospital in plenty of time for Blake’s appointment, we ended up waiting for an hour’s time after his appointment time before we were seen. The clinic was very busy and they were well behind in their appointments.
Blake’s appointment went well once we did finally get in. His squint hasn’t affected his eyesight any more than in the past which his glasses helps to correct anyway. The real issue is that while his right eye will straighten slightly for longer distances it’s not straightening at all for close vision tasks.
This means that Blake will need to undergo surgery to fix the eye muscles in charge of keeping eyes straight. This is a day surgery which will require Blake being under general anesthesia and the surgery itself will take half an hour. It’s not considered an urgent surgery since his eyesight isn’t affected but will need to be done before he gets too settled in school to prevent a possible bullying scenario. We should hopefully be seeing the consultant who will be doing the surgery in around 3 or more months time.
