Today is my birthday. Right now I have a curious mix of feelings that range from “where the Hell did the time go?” to “God, I feel old!” It feels like only yesterday that I was graduating high school at the sweet age of 18 and yet here I am at the much older age of 32, married and the mother of 4 kids. So , to celebrate my birthday I thought I’d share a few things I learned about life along the way.
Enjoy the little things. Life is short and time passes far too quickly. Sometimes we can get so wrapped up on the unimportant things that we fail to see the importance of the small things. Those small things will be the big things we remember most later.
5. Have fun!Take some risks. It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut in our day-to-day living so take a few risks. Step outside your comfort zone and try new experiences. You never know what may come from them.
Remove the negatives from your life. It doesn’t matter if those negatives are family members or close friends. If they are holding you down and making your life miserable for you and your loved ones, drop them. Cut them from your life. There may be days when you miss them or think about them heaps but your life will be much happier without them.
Don’t hold grudges. This was a particularly hard lesson for me to learn. I can hold grudges for a long time and while I forgive fairly easily, I don’t forget vey well. But it is an important lesson to learn. Holding grudges does more harm to yourself than the person you’re holding them against. Chances are they don’t even know what you’re upset about and if they do know, they don’t care anyway. So do yourself a favour, just let it go. You’ll feel much better for it.
- Have fun. It’s OK to let loose and have fun. It’s OK to act less than mature some days. In fact, I demand it. It’s depressing to act like an “adult” all the time. So and especially if you’re a parent, act like a child occasionally and have fun. Your kids will remember those moments and appreciate them even more when they grow up.
I may not be senior citizen with a wealth of knowledge and experience to share but I have learned some lessons in my life. I hope what I’ve shared with you today has helped you in some way.
